Santorini

Logo, labels and packaging for Santorini, a fictitious extra virgin olive oil. The aim was to convey quality, finesse and healthy eating based on the Mediterranean diet.

The two packaging photos were retouched with AI in 2026, starting from the original 2008 photos, which were poorly lit.

Context

A fictitious product for a student project in 2008: a Chilean extra virgin olive oil inspired by ancient Greek culture and its long relationship with the olive tree. I did the research, the name, the logo, the labels and the box.

    Goal

The oil had to feel healthy, Mediterranean and of high quality, the three concepts of my analysis. It was made in Chile, with the idea of offering the same quality as oils from the Mediterranean, for people who care more about quality than price.

      Process

I started by researching ancient Greek culture and its relationship with the olive: myths, architecture, painting, sculpture and ornament. The oil was first called Olimpios, after Olympia; the shortlist then included Olímpica, Roda, Calais, Olivios, Kotinos and Santorini.

        Design decisions

For the logo I drew Greek statues as line art: the Discobolus, an athlete and a Venus, framed by an olive wreath, the prize of the ancient Olympic Games. The final label uses the Venus, with the name in serif capitals and “oliva extra virgen” in spaced italics.

          Process

Label studies for different bottle colours and caps before the final packaging.

            Result

The final box is white with gold ornaments and windows that show the bottle. It carries the texts “Extraído desde los valles de Chile y con la misma calidad del mediterráneo”, “Producto Chileno”, 250 ml and 0.3%.
